As an artist of dual (Palestinian-Swiss) heritage, Habib Asal‘s work reflects on his experience of being in between two cultures and is often concerned with identity, in-/exclusion and cross-cultural phenomena. His practice is research-based, process-oriented and multi-disciplinary; it is conceptual and focuses primarily on installation, text, performance, audio and ready-made. His works capture attention, not only for their formal precision and aesthetic, but also for their underlying political resonance. Critical debates and the conditions of artistic production are at core of his practice. Habib Asal's work shows a profound interest in interrogating the cultural and visual representations of politics, history and economy.
