Although Switzerland is geographically situated in the middle/center of Europe, it is not a member of the European Union (EU). Which is why Switzerland is often considered an island. The flags of the European Union member countries are embedded into the shapes of the federal cantons/districts of Switzerland surrounded by the blue color flag of the EU.
